Accessibility Statement
We want everyone to be able to use Brave Haven, including people who use a screen reader, magnification, voice control, or a keyboard instead of a mouse.
The standards we work to
Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, published by the W3C. Meeting it also covers the other standards that apply to us:
- European Union: the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882), applied in Portugal by Decreto-Lei n.º 82/2022. Its harmonized standard, EN 301 549, is based on WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
- United States: the Americans with Disabilities Act, for which the Department of Justice uses WCAG 2.1 Level AA as the technical standard for state and local government sites, and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, which incorporates WCAG 2.0 Level AA.
Microenterprises like ours are exempt from the European Accessibility Act's requirements for services. We follow them anyway, because they describe what it takes for people to be able to use the product.
Where we are
We have not yet had a full manual audit, including testing with screen readers, so we do not claim full conformance. Every page listed below passes our automated accessibility checks, and we fix anything people report to us.
How we test
- Every page listed below is scanned with axe-core, the open-source accessibility engine, against WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 Level AA, on every code change: at desktop size, on a phone, on a 320 pixel wide screen, and in the dark theme. A failing scan fails the build.
- The same tests check that no page scrolls sideways or has to be zoomed out on a phone.
- Automated tests use the keyboard alone to reach the skip link, answer a practice question, and open the phone menu.
- Every color pairing in the light and dark themes was measured against the WCAG contrast formula before it was used.
- Pages are written with semantic HTML: one main heading per page, labeled form controls, and a visible focus ring.
Pages covered: Home, Ventures, Brave Haven Aviation, A&P practice questions (including answering a question and the results), Courses, every course outline, For organizations, Request a quote (including its error and confirmation states), Capability statement, About, Community, Thank you, Privacy, Terms, Accessibility.
Known limitations
We do not know of any accessibility problems on this site. Spam protection (Vercel BotID) runs invisibly, with no puzzle to solve. If you find a problem, please tell us.
Compatibility
The site is built for recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, on desktop and mobile, and for use with screen readers and browser zoom up to 200%. Automated testing runs in Chromium at desktop and Android phone sizes, in light and dark themes.
Feedback and help
If something on Brave Haven does not work for you, or you need information in another format, email hr@bravehaven.io. Tell us the page and what happened. We reply within 5 business days, and if we cannot fix it right away we will help you get what you need another way.
Enforcement
In Portugal, the Autoridade de Segurança Alimentar e Económica (ASAE) oversees the accessibility of e-commerce services under Decreto-Lei n.º 82/2022, with the Instituto Nacional para a Reabilitação (INR) coordinating. In other EU countries, contact your national enforcement body.
In the United States, you can file a complaint under the Americans with Disabilities Act at ada.gov.
